The George Mortimer Sports Bursary

About

A grant of £300 will be awarded annually to a final year pupil at a secondary school in Perth and Kinross to enable them to continue as a athlete within their sport when moving into further education (either college or university)

Criteria

  • A pupil must continue with his/her sport whilst pursuing a course of full time study.
  • The nominated pupil must either have been born or currently residing in Perth and Kinross.
  • Any pupil which the school considers to have future potential can be nominated.
  • Athletes receiving individual Lottery/Scottish Institute of Sport support are not eligible for this Award.

The Process

  • Each secondary school in Perth & Kinross will be asked to nominate ONE pupil, whom the school considers would benefit from the grant.
  • The winner will be chosen by Perth & Kinross Sports Council.
  • The school from which the pupil is chosen will be consulted as to a suitable occasion for the award to be made.

‚ÄčGeorge Mortimer Award May 2018

The George Mortimer Grant Award has been awarded to Blair Wighton, aged 17, from Greenloaning.  Blair's sport is Shotokan Karate, In the last year Blair has won the JKA Scottish Championship (under 18 Male Kata), for the fourth year in sucession as well as the AfroEurAsia Scottish Championship (under 18 Mixed Kumite and under 18 mixed Kata Pairs).  Blair also represented Scotland at the JKA World Championship, for both Kata and Kumite, in Ireland.  Blair finished in the top 32 in the world for under 18 Male Kumite.  This was the best result of all the Scottish under 18 boys across the disciplines.
